Whimbrel for Mac

Bot-free meeting notes, a searchable memory of your work, and daily briefings, built natively for macOS with SwiftUI.

Kestrel is now called Whimbrel. Until the first Whimbrel release ships, the installer and the app still say Kestrel. It's the same app, and it updates itself to the new name.

Mac questions

Does Whimbrel run on Intel Macs?

No. Whimbrel requires a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). On-device transcription and local models are built and tested for Apple silicon only.

Which macOS permissions does Whimbrel need?

Microphone, screen and system audio recording (to capture the other side of a call), and Accessibility (to read window text for screen memory). Setup asks for each one separately, and you can revoke any of them in System Settings.

How do updates work?

Whimbrel checks for a new version daily, downloads and verifies it in the background, then shows a Restart Now banner. Your data is untouched by updates.
